I'm going to explain SIM and eSIM exchange and refund policies for foreigners in Korea in an easy and detailed way.
I want to save your valuable time and money. Let's go through it together!
✅ 1. What documents do foreigners need to get a SIM card?
Short-term stay (less than 90 days) → Passport only. (Prepaid plans only)
Long-term stay (90 days or more) → Alien Registration Card (ARC) + Passport + Proof of address required. Postpaid plans available.
💡 Tip: Before you get your ARC, starting with a prepaid SIM at the airport or online is a good option.
📱 2. Physical SIM vs eSIM, which one is better?
🔹 Physical SIM – Easy to buy anywhere. However, replacement fee applies if lost.
🔹 eSIM – Easy activation via QR code, easy to keep your number. Compatible with iPhone XS and above / Galaxy S20 and above.
I only use eSIM now because swapping physical SIMs every time I change phones was too annoying. It's definitely more convenient.
